This itinerary offers a blend of mountain adventures and outdoor activities in the Rockies, paired with relaxing winery visits and leisure time in the beautiful Okanagan region. With our campervan, you do not require campsites with power or water hookups, allowing you to save money during your trip and potentially discover more beautiful campgrounds.

Day 1: Calgary to Canmore
Drive: 1 hour (100 km)
Activities:

  • Explore downtown Canmore and stock up on groceries.
  • Short hike: Grassi Lakes Trail (3.5 km, easy, turquoise lakes).

  • Relax at Riverside Park or Canmore Nordic Centre.
  • If you're looking for an amazing terrace with views of the mountains in Canmore, visit Wood Restaurant, the perfect spot to hang out. You can enjoy a pint of tap beer or try their burgers.

  • For a fine dining experience, we recommend The Sensory. You'll be treated to stunning views and an exceptional dining experience.
    Overnight: RV campsite in Canmore (e.g., Wapiti Campground).

Day 2: Canmore to Banff
Drive: 25 minutes (27 km)
Activities:
Morning:
Walk around Banff Avenue to explore shops and enjoy local dining.

If you're looking for breakfast, try Wild Flour in Banff, known for its delicious homemade sandwiches and great coffee.
Afternoon hike:
Tunnel Mountain Trail (4.5 km, moderate, panoramic views, stunning sunsets).

Soak in the Banff Upper Hot Springs.
Alternative option:
Visit the Banff Gondola for stunning sunset views atop Sulphur Mountain. You can take the gondola both up and down, or hike up and enjoy a free gondola ride on the way back. Either way, don't miss soaking in the Banff Upper Hot Springs.
For a different kind of sunset, head to Banff Ave Brewery. There's a cozy balcony where you can watch the sunset while enjoying a pint of freshly tapped beer.

Overnight: Tunnel Mountain Village Campground.

Day 3: Banff – Lake Minnewanka & Bow Valley Parkway
Activities:

  • Morning hike:
    Stewart Canyon Trail (6 km, easy, with scenic views). You also have the option to rent a boat and relax on Lake Minnewanka
  • Scenic drive:
    Drive along Bow Valley Parkway, stopping at Johnston Canyon - Lower Falls: 2.6 km round trip (easy). If you have extra time, you can extend this trail and continue to the Ink Pots. The entire trail is 11.5 km, takes about 4 hours, moderate.

  • Evening:
    Enjoy sunset views at Vermilion Lakes.
    Overnight:
    Stay at the same campsite in Banff.

Day 4: Banff to Lake Louise
Drive: 40 minutes (57 km)
Activities:

  • Morning hike: Lake Agnes Tea House (7.4 km, moderate).

  • For an extra challenge, extend to Devil’s Thumb for panoramic views.

  • Afternoon: Stroll around Lake Louise and relax by the water.
    Overnight: Lake Louise Campground.

Day 5: Lake Louise – Moraine Lake
Activities:

  • Early morning visit to Moraine Lake for sunrise.

  • Hike: Larch Valley (9 km, 3 hours, hard) or extend to Sentinel Pass (11 km, 5 hours, hard), one of Canada’s most beautiful hikes.
  • Afternoon: Relax by Moraine Lake or Lake Louise.
    Overnight: Same campground in Lake Louise.

Day 6: Lake Louise to Kelowna
Drive: 5 hours (420 km)
Stops and Activities:

  • Break in Revelstoke for light activities, such as the Giant Cedars Boardwalk.
  • Arrive in Kelowna and enjoy a sunset by Okanagan Lake.

  • Overnight: Kelowna RV Park, Bear Creek Provincial Park or Apple Valley Orchard and RV Park

Day 7: Kelowna – Wineries and Beach Time
Activities:

  • Morning wine tours in the Okanagan Valley, including Mission Hill or Quails’ Gate.
  • Afternoon: Relax at Okanagan Beach or enjoy numerous water activities here.
  • Explore Kelowna’s downtown waterfront.

  • Overnight: Same campsite in Kelowna.

Day 8: Kelowna to Penticton
Drive: 1 hour (65 km)
Activities:

  • Knox mountain park - Short hikes with beautiful views.
  • Scenic drive along the Naramata Bench Wine Route, stopping at boutique wineries.

  • Spend the afternoon at Okanagan Lake Beach or walking (biking) the Kettle Valley Rail Trail.
    Overnight: South Beach Gardens Campground in Penticton, There is another beautiful campground just
    20 minutes away from Penticton-Naramata Campground. If you're seeking more privacy away from the
    town, consider staying at one of these two campgrounds: Camp-Along Resort or Banbury Green RV.

Day 9: Penticton
Activities:

  • In the morning: We recommend trying Wayne and Freda for the best coffee in town. If you're looking for delicious baked goods, visit Petrasek Artisan Bakery for amazing croissants, breads, and more.
  • Explore local farmers' markets and enjoy a bike ride along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail (Little Tunnel).

    Relax by Okanagan Lake.
    Sunset tip:
    Our favorite spot is Poplar Grove Winery. It's an amazing place for a delicious dinner with breathtaking sunset views.

  • If you don’t want to spend money on dinner but still want to enjoy the amazing sunset, simply walk or bike from Penticton to Munson Mountain Lookout, and you'll be blown away by the views.
    Overnight:
    Same campsite.

Day 10: Penticton
Activities:

  • Explore more Naramata Bench wineries or indulge in a wine-paired lunch.
  • Relax by Okanagan Lake, rent a boat, or book a sunset cruise.

Alternatively!

Instead of staying in Penticton, consider taking an earlier trip to Kananaskis to hike the Smutwood Peak Trail, which is a full-day adventure. You could move your stay from Penticton a night earlier and head towards Banff, Canmore, or nearby areas to get closer to the trailhead. This way, you’ll have more time to explore the stunning views and enjoy the hike. Because this hike is something! Keep in mind it's a tough trail, so you should plan to rest the next day and adjust your schedule accordingly.

Day 11: Penticton to Kananaskis
Drive: 6–7 hours (500 km)
Stops:

  • Break in Kamloops for lunch or a short walk.
  • Enjoy scenic views along the highway.
    Overnight: Mount Kidd RV Park in Kananaskis.

Day 12: Kananaskis – Rawson Lake
Activities:

  • Hike: Rawson Lake Trail (7.7 km, moderate)

  • Extend to Sarrail Ridge for breathtaking views (11.5 km, 6 hours, challenging).

  • Afternoon: Relax at Upper Kananaskis Lake or Kananaskis Village.
    Overnight: Same campsite in Kananaskis.

Day 13: Kananaskis – Scenic Adventures
Activities:

  • Hike: Ptarmigan Cirque (3.5 km, moderate, alpine meadow scenery). If you prefer more intensity, try the Ptarmigan Ridge Trail (19 km, 6 hours, difficult).
  • Spend the afternoon relaxing by Barrier Lake or visiting Canmore for dinner.
    Overnight: Same campsite in Kananaskis.

Day 14: Kananaskis to Calgary
Drive: 1 hour (100 km)
Activities:

  • Take the scenic route back to Calgary and enjoy final views of the Rockies.
